چکیده
On July 7 th , 1999 a joint statement was issued by the U.S. Public Health Service and the American Academy of Pediatrics which called for the immediate reduction and elimination of thimerosal from infant vaccines. While tremendous progress has been made in this area, it is very concerning to note that recent recommendations for pregnant women and infants regarding receipt of flu vaccine, much of which contains thimerosal, mercury based preservative. Following the precautionary principal the Institute of Medicine in their October 2001 Immunization Safety Review on “Thimerosal-Containing Vaccines and Neurodevelopmental Disorders” Recommended that pregnant women, infants and children not receive vaccines preserved with thimerosal.

Serodiagnosis of Toxocara among Infants and Pregnant Women Suspected of Ocular or Visceral Toxocariasis Using Two Types of ELISA Antigens
Background: The diagnosis of toxocariasis heavily depends on immunological tests because the number of parasites is usually few in infected tissues, unless they migrate into an organ such as eye. In general, patients with ocular toxocariasis have serum anti- T canis antibody titres that are significantly lower than those with visceral toxocariasis. Objective: To diagnose the asymptomatic toxoca...

متن کاملHair Mercury Levels in Six Iranian Sub-populations for Estimation of Methylmercury Exposure: A Mini-review
Background: Mercury is widespread and persistent in the environment. One organic form of mercury, Methylmercury (MeHg), can accumulate in the food chain in aquatic ecosystems and lead to high concentrations of MeHg in fish, which, when consumed by humans, can result in an increased risk of adverse effects. Currently, the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) has established...

The mothers or women of child-bearing age, either non-Indians or Indians, and their children were sampled along the Madeira River and in the Kayapó reservation (Fresco River), respectively. Among the sampled individuals t...
متن کاملThe Swiss iodized salt program provides adequate iodine for school children and pregnant women, but weaning infants not receiving iodine-containing complementary foods as well as their mothers are iodine deficient.
BACKGROUND If children and pregnant women in the population are iodine sufficient, it is generally assumed infants are also sufficient. But weaning infants may be at risk of iodine deficiency because iodized salt contributes little dietary iodine during this period. To fill this gap, iodine fortification of infant formula milk (IFM) and complementary foods (CF) is likely important. OBJECTIVES...
